Causes of knee injuries
• Direct blow to the knee
• Abnormal twisting
• Activities causing prolonged pressure on knees
Injury types
• Acute injuries
• Overuse injuries
Diseases
• Ostearthritis
Knee injuries are commonly categorized as acute injuries and overuse injuries.
- Sprains, strains, or other injuries to the ligaments and tendons connecting and supporting the kneecap
- A tear in the rubbery cushions of the knee joint (meniscus)
- Ligament tears, such as the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) & posterior cruciate ligament (PCL)
- Pieces of bone or tissue (loose bodies) from a fracture or dislocation may get caught in the joint and interfere with movement.
- Knee joint dislocation – a rare injury caused by blunt force to the knee – requiring immediate medical care
- Inflammation of the small sacs of fluid that cushion and lubricate the knee (Bursitis)
- Inflammation of the tendons (tendinitis) or small tears in the tendons (Tendinosis)
- Thickening or folding of the knee ligaments (Plica Syndrome)
- Pain in the front of the knee from overuse, injury, excess weight, or problems in the kneecap (Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome)
- Irritation and inflammation of the band of fibrous tissue that runs down the outside of the thigh (Iliotibial band syndrome)
Treatments at BOSH
Knee Arthroscopy
Mechanical symptoms that cause pain or hinder knee-related functions are treated by Knee Arthroscopy. This is a minimally invasive and preferred procedure to trim out a loose flap of the meniscus or a piece of floating articular cartilage to avoid causing instability and/or further injury.

Meniscectomy for a Meniscus Tear
Meniscectomy is a routine surgical procedure to remove the torn meniscus that tends to cause pain and swelling around the knee area. The recovery duration includes a coordinated program of physical therapy and home exercises for rapid healing.

Treatment for Patellar Tracking Disorder
A non-surgical treatment to fix the shifting of kneecap (Patella) during activity, this is treated by expert doctors using over the counter medicines, exercises to strengthen knee muscles or using supportive aids. The patient’s history is examined before advising a course of action.

Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome
Commonly referred to as “runner’s knee” the Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome characterizes pain around the front of the knee and around the patella. While athletes are commonly diagnosed with this syndrome, it also affects non-athletes. This condition typically causes discomfort and stiffness, leading to difficulty in climbing stairs, kneeling, and conducting other daily activities. Patients are typically advised to take hyaluronic Injections for Osteoarthritis of the Knee and PRP injections can help with knee pain caused by ACL, PCL, MCL, LCL sprains or tears, tendonitis or tendinosis, bursitis, and osteoarthritis.
Knee Replacement Surgery
A total knee replacement surgery, also known as arthroplasty, is conducted to remove the damaged cartilage & bone surface which is capped with a metal and plastic implant. In the present age with the available technology new minimally invasive and smaller incision surgical techniques are being used for total joint replacement. With lesser tissues being cut, these new techniques may allow for quicker, less painful recovery and a rapid return to activities.
Here at BOSH, we conduct computer-assisted surgery that aids in creating a visual map of the knee hidden to the naked eye. Every aspect of the operation is tracked by a computer including the surgical instrumentation and the positioning of the implant, enabling our surgeons to achieve extremely accurate implant alignment.
