Abdominal Surgeries
Laparoscopic or “minimally invasive” surgery is a specialized technique for performing surgery to diagnose acute and chronic abdominal pain. Numerous incisions known as ports are made to accommodate a tubular instrument known as a trochar. The trochar allows specialized instruments and a special camera known as a laparoscope to pass through during the procedure, allowing surgeons to study detailed images of the abdomen. Laparoscopy plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating appendicitis, adhesions or intra-abdominal scar tissue, pelvic infections, endometriosis, abdominal bleeding, and, less frequently, cancer.
